Mixed media bas-relief sculpture: wood, styrofoam, paper, cardboard, clay, plaster, plastic, photographs, paint, and glass

Size: 31.5" x 67.5" x 9"

Artist's statement:

"ONE" is a mixed media assemblage made from wood, styrofoam, clay, plastic, glass, paper, fix-it-all, caulk, glue, and acrylic paint measuring 31.5” x 67.5” x 9”. It is modeled after the back of the U.S. one dollar bill.

Four of humanity’s most influential religions are each symbolized on the numerals in the corners. Judaism and Christianity are labeled as “ONE” because of their close relationship. Hinduism is labeled with “EON” because it is the oldest of the four religions. Islam is labeled “NEO” because it is the newest of the four religions. Each religion reveals “God” in its own way.

To paraphrase Chief Seattle: “We Belong to the Earth. (The Earth does not belong to us.)” The human population of the planet recently reached 7 billion souls. To this world we are all one of the whole. "Nos es totus huic Una." We are all in this together. As citizens of the United States of America, and as individual human beings, we are in the unique position of being able to direct our future in this world, if we work together as One.

The two half-globes show the northern and southern hemispheres of our planet. Oceans are adorned with words of respect written in 30 different languages. The eyes of our planet are watching us. Our planet is the only "God" that matters for the future of the human race. Pray to it if you wish, but respect it you must. Without it, we do not exist. We are all in this together.
